Play Like You've Got A Roland Right There With You

Music Keyboard is a free synthesizer simulator, listed as a game but more similar to the actual tools that musicians and others use to make music. It provides potentially thousands of sound options to play on a virtual keyboard. How does it stack up? Let's find out.

The Kiss Of The Keyboard, Virtualized

The most prominent thing about Music Keyboard is that it's designed for use with a touch screen. You play it with your fingers the way you would a real keyboard. This doesn't provide the same level of feedback as a real keyboard and can feel more cumbersome as such, and it doesn't work that well with a mouse. Still, between its design and the features it provides, and even the look of the interface, Music Keyboard really is a decent "emulation" of some unknown keyboard.

Synthesize Your Music Right At Home

Essentially, Music Keyboard is best used to create short tunes or tracks for use in casual contexts, like free games. It won't serve as a replacement for a proper hardware keyboard, especially if you intend to spend hours composing a piece. But outside of professional use, Music Keyboard serves the purpose that it's advertised for nicely.

PROS

  • Designed for touch screens
  • Lots of sound options

CONS

  • Poor with mouse and keyboard
  • Synthesizer-like learning curve
